Grass Clipping Decals Available Now!

The City of Willoughby continues to offer grass-clipping collections as part of our waste collection service. The service is designed for those who do not mulch or compost their grass. A grass-clipping sticker can be purchased from the Service Department, located at City Hall. The cost of the sticker is $20.00. This year's sticker is yellow and is designed to be placed on your 32-gallon container. Grass clipping collection begins April 1st and continues thru November 30th 2010. Grass clippings will not be picked up without a current sticker and proper container. You can purchase your 2010 sticker by coming to the City Hall at One Public Square. If you have any questions please call Debbie @ 953-4111.

YARD WASTE COLLECTION 2010

Yard Waste Preparation - Loose yard waste will be collected when placed in biodegradable paper bags or open garbage cans (NO LIDS). If specific containers are to be used for yard waste regularly, they should be marked YARD WASTE and placed with the lettering facing the street for visibility to drivers. The yard waste truck driver must be able to distinguish yard waste from inside his vehicle. Small tree branches (not more than 3” in diameter) or shrub limbs must be cut into lengths no longer than 4 feet, bundled and tied.

NO YARD WASTE WILL BE COLLECTED IF PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS.

REMINDER: Garbage, refuse, yard waste and grass clippings are to be at the curb on your scheduled collection day by 7:00 A.M.

The foundation of every community is the quality of its infrastructure. The Willoughby Service Department maintains nearly 90 miles of storm sewer lines and 91 miles of sanitary sewer lines and a sewage treatment plant which processes an average influent flow of 7 million gallons a day. More than 86 center lane miles of asphalt and concrete roads are maintained and 44 signalized intersections carefully synchronized. Without proper infrastructure maintenance, emergency medical personnel would have difficulty arriving quickly to help the needy; safety forces could experience response delays; travel would be hindered for motorists . . . the list could be endless.

Aside from maintaining roads, storm sewers and sanitary sewers, the Service Department maintains more than 150 pieces of city equipment ranging from snow plows to emergency medical vehicles, coordinates and oversees the weekly solid waste collection, maintains two cemeteries, numerous city buildings, coordinates the annual leaf collection, assists in street tree maintenance of more than 20,000 trees, is involved in many city aesthetic enhancement programs and routinely performs street sweeping.
