REGISTER NOW for spring and summer programs available through Willoughby Parks and Recreation
WILLOUGHBY FIRE DEPARTMENT / LAKE COUNTY UTILITIES:
On or about April 1st, the Willoughby Fire Dept. will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout the City of Willoughby:
- Flushing will take place Monday through Thursday, weather permitting
- Flushing program is projected to last six weeks
- Signs will be posted in the areas that are to be flushed
- We advise DO NOT do laundry on days that hydrants are flushed. Discolored water may occur, flush lines by allowing cold water to run until clear.
The hydrant flushing program is designed to ensure that hydrants are in proper working order and that adequate water is available for firefighting purposes.

Are you overwhelmed with lawn care and maintenance this summer? What are you planning on doing with all those grass clippings, branches, huge piles of leaves, and other yard waste? Keep one thing in mind when disposing of your yard waste; never dump wastes at the curb, into the storm drain in the street or on the banks of a nearby stream! Yard waste can clog the storm sewer system, leading to stormwater backups or flooding. Anything in a storm sewer or stream will wash directly to Lake Erie, untreated! Blow grass clippings off the roadway, sidewalk and driveway and back onto the lawn. Try composting, using a mulching mower, or using your neighborhood yard waste collection dates. For more information, contact the Willoughby Service Department at 953-4111 or the Lake County Stormwater Management Department at 350-5900 or www.lakecountyohio.gov/smd and find us on social media.
Home inspections are performed on Thursdays and condominiums are inspected on Fridays. Someone has to be at the home while our techs are on site. This needs to be set up and paid for before the inspection can be scheduled. Payment can be credit card, cash, or check (payable to The City of Willoughby). A fire inspection also needs to be scheduled with the Fire Department to check for working smoke detectors. Call the Fire Dept at 440-953-4344 to set up an appointment. Please call 440-953-4111 if you have any other questions.
