Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

D.A.R.E.Officers from the Willoughby Police Department teach the DARE program to each fifth grade class in the public schools within the City of Willoughby. For 9 weeks or more the officers teach the students how to resist drugs and violence, how to build self-esteem, the consequences of choices they make and all the actions they take as well as the 8 ways to say no, how to avoid peer pressure and how to deal with stress. In the 2009-2010 school year, Officers Kerzisnik, Huth, and Jordan taught 9 classes totaling approximately 250 students.

Safety Town

Safety TownSafety Town is a safety awareness program designed to teach children about to enter kindergarten how to respond to dangerous situations. Certified civilian instructors and police officers offer safety lessons with regard to traffic, strangers, fire, and bicycle riding, while volunteers and teen instructors provide much needed assistance with check-ins and guidance.

Registration for this one week class is held in April and is open to residents of Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, and Kirtland. Our Parks and Recreation Department coordinates registration.
