Arbor Day Celebration Planned
Join us for the City of Willoughby’s inaugural Arbor Day event, Rooted in Willoughby, to celebrate trees, tradition, and the deep roots that connect us.
Get Involved Before the Event
Coloring Contest / Mascot Naming Contest: Young artists (ages 3-11) can download the official coloring sheet and submit their completed artwork for a chance to be recognized at the event. And an extra challenge – help name our tree mascot by submitting your best name idea along with your coloring page.
- Age Groups: 3 – 5 years | 6-8 years | 9-11 years
- Submit to Willoughby City Hall (1 Public Square) by Friday, April 10, 2026

Photo Contest: Community members of all ages are encouraged to capture and submit photos that highlight the beauty of trees throughout Willoughby.

Arbor Day Tree Dedication Contest: This Arbor Day, we’re celebrating the people who make our lives brighter! Write a heartfelt letter telling us who you would like to dedicate a tree to and why. Your story will be featured at our Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
- Write a short letter (up to 250 words) explaining who you’d like to dedicate a tree to and why.
- Submit your letter by Friday, April 10, 2026 to acooper@willoughbyohio.com and put Arbor Day Tree Dedication in the subject line.
- One winner will be selected from all entries collected
Winning entries will be recognized during the Arbor Day celebration.

Mayor Fiala will read and sign the official Arbor Day proclamation, reaffirming the City’s dedication to a greener future.

Photo Contest Awards
Community members will be honored for capturing the beauty of trees throughout Willoughby.
Tree Dedication Ceremony
A Willoughby resident will share why they chose to dedicate a tree in honor of someone meaningful to them — celebrating the lasting impact individuals have on our community, much like the trees that stand strong for generations.
Story Time at Noon
An Arbor Day–themed story time scheduled for 12:00 p.m., offering families and children an engaging way to celebrate the importance of trees through reading and imagination.
We invite residents of all ages to join us as we celebrate 43 years of Tree City pride and continue building a greener future together.
