Traffic Alerts – Upcoming Road Closures And Detours

Motorists should be aware of upcoming road closures that may impact travel in and around Willoughby

SR 84 Retaining Wall Project – (9/16/26) Project in the final stage. Stabilization is complete, and crews are repairing the sewer and fixing pavement. Closure will continue for approximately 2 more weeks. Slope stabilization and retaining wall construction will begin near Shankland Road and continue toward the intersection of Route 174. SR 84 will be closed between Shankland Road and River Road for approximately eight weeks. Detours will be posted.

River Street Retaining Wall ExtensionBeginning September 18th, an additional 192-foot continuation of last year’s slope stabilization project near Wilson Avenue. This work utilizes remaining FEMA grant funding from the original project. River Street between Hastings and Wilson will be closed for approximately six weeks. Detours will be posted.

River Street Resurfacing Project Awaiting update from ODOT – possible shift to 2027. Milling and resurfacing improvements through an ODOT-funded project. Traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays.

Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time while these projects are underway.

ADDITIONAL PROJECTS:

Ridge Road Sidewalk & Transit Waiting Area Project – New sidewalk connections and LAKETRAN accessibility improvements near the intersection of Routes 91 and 84.

SOM Center Road Commercial Sidewalk Project – Installation of new sidewalks along the commercial corridor on Route 91 near Route 84.

Enbridge Gas Ohio will begin a gas main and service line improvement project. Work will take place on sections of Sharpe Avenue, Mckinney Avenue, Buckeye Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Orchard Avenue, Lyons Avenue, and Hughes Avenue. Estimated to take 70 days.
