March 2025
As winter gives way to spring, our city has renewed energy. March brings exciting developments, community events, and opportunities to connect. I want to take this opportunity to share some updates within our city departments:
Parks and Recreation Department: It’s time to get ready for another exciting season in our parks. Starting March 17th, pool passes will be available for purchase, and summer camp registration will open. We are currently accepting applications for seasonal summer help in our parks and recreation and service departments. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be part of our community’s recreation efforts.
Service Department: Our road levy funds for 2025 will be utilized for the slope stabilization of Rt. 84. Recently we noticed a significant slope failure near the intersection of Rt. 84 and Shankland. This is threatening the road and utilities and warrants immediate action. We were fortunate to obtain grant funds to help offset some of the costs of this work. The remaining road levy funds will go toward updating road ratings, which includes a city-wide audit completed by our city engineerto prioritize repaving efforts for 2026.
The slope stabilization on River Street at River and South Street is in conjunction with two other projects. Lake County is replacing the water main from South Street to Union Street, and ODOT will be repaving River Street in 2026.
With the support of a $165,000 grant from Laketran, sidewalks will be installed from Pine Ridge to Maple Grove, improving walkability and safety in our community.
Police and Fire Departments: We are pleased to announce that the city has selected Infinity Construction as the contractor for the new police station. Infinity Construction was the low bidder and was chosen for its excellent reputation, proven record of accomplishments, and commitment to high-quality civic projects.
We recently swore in three new firefighters who will be stationed at Fire Station 2. These hires were made possible through a SAFER grant, ensuring that our city continues to provide top-tier emergency response services to residents.
As we look forward to the warmer months, we are excited about the return of outdoor concerts, outdoor markets, and other family-friendly events that our team and local organizations are busy planning. We love bringing these traditions to our residents and are always looking for volunteers—from middle schoolers to adults—to help make these events successful. If you’re interested in having fun while giving back, please complete the short form on our website to connect with our Parks and Recreation team.
Some upcoming events include the Adult Easter Egg Hunt at Andrews Osborne Academy on April 5th. On April 12th, we will host the annual Easter Egg Hunt at South High School football field and Breakfast with the Bunny at the Willoughby Senior Center (registration required).
