April 2026

Spring has finally arrived! After a long and challenging winter, we welcome the return of activity across our community. As residents head outdoors and begin seasonal projects, I’d like to share a few reminders and updates from around the city.

Republic Services will resume yard waste collection beginning April 1 on your regular trash collection day. Yard waste should be placed in brown kraft bags (50 lbs. max) or containers labeled “Yard Waste.” Twigs and branches must be bundled in 4-foot lengths and should not exceed 30 lbs.

As mowing season begins, please avoid blowing grass clippings into the street, as they can block storm sewers and contribute to flooding. Residents near steep slopes, especially along the river, should also avoid dumping clippings over the edge, as this can accelerate erosion. In addition, disposing of yard waste in utility easements, environmental easements, or public rights-of-way is not permitted.

The Parks and Recreation and Service Departments are now hiring seasonal employees. These positions offer a great opportunity to serve the community while gaining valuable experience. To learn more or apply, please visit our website or contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 440.953.4200.

This year, we are celebrating Arbor Day with a “Rooted in Willoughby” event on Saturday, April 25, from 11 am – 1 pm at Wes Point Park. In advance of the event, residents are invited to participate in several community contests, including a coloring and mascot naming contest for children, a photo contest highlighting the beauty of trees throughout Willoughby, and a tree dedication contest recognizing someone special in your life. All submissions are due by April 10. For event details and ways to participate, please visit the City’s website.

We continue to see strong investment taking place in Willoughby. Ericson Manufacturing is constructing a 20,000-square-foot addition at its current location, and Gallagher Plumbing is purchasing an additional property in the city to support its growing operations. In addition, we are excited to welcome new businesses, including Double D’s Honky Tonk & Smokehouse in downtown Willoughby in the former HOLA building, and Jeff’s Candy Shop in the former Brandt’s Candies location on Lost Nation Road. Both are already generating excitement ahead of their anticipated openings.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first State of the City presentation. It was a great opportunity to share a behind-the-scenes look at the work taking place across the city, as well as a preview of what lies ahead. For those who were unable to attend, a recording will be posted on our website soon.

Are you interested in connecting with the city? If so, please take a moment to scan the QR code and let us know what types of gatherings would work best for you and how you would like to engage.

As always, thank you for your continued support and pride in our community. I look forward to seeing you around town this spring.
