May 2025

It’s hard to believe it is May already, but we can feel the energy around town as we prepare for a fun summer in Willoughby!

We kick off the season with the Willoughby Outdoor Market, hosted by The Heart of Willoughby organization. Now in its 46th year, the market opens Saturday, May 3rd, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot and will continue every Saturday through October. We also congratulate The Heart of Willoughby for receiving the 2025 Willoughby Rotary Civic Organization of the Year award.

Also returning this month is the Marous DTW Rib Burn Off, happening May 17th–18th. Head downtown for a weekend filled with delicious ribs from local and national vendors, cold refreshments, the Meijer Kids Play Area, live music, and more.

May also offers a moment to pause and reflect as we observe Memorial Day on May 26th. We honor the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. The annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Erie Street and Third Street, concluding with a ceremony at Sharpe Avenue Cemetery. A second ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. at Willoughby Memorial Gardens on Lakeshore Boulevard.

We’re excited to announce that Willoughby will be one of the host cities for Hope Heroes, a student-led campaign using the healing power of dogs to bring comfort to critically ill children. From May 23rd to June 2nd, four giant inflatable balloon dogs and a doghouse will be on display in Wes Point Park as part of this creative installation. Organized by students in the Excel TECC Marketing/Junior Achievement program, the campaign raises funds for facility and therapy dog programs at area children’s hospitals. Be sure to stop by, snap a photo, and support this inspiring cause.

We’re also thrilled to announce a brand-new event series—Walkabout Willoughby! Taking place on the second weekend of each month, May through September, and organized by the Willoughby Arts Collaborative, this downtown celebration will include extended shopping hours, an art reception at Stella’s Art Gallery on Friday evening, family activities and live music in Wes Point Park on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and brunch specials at local restaurants on Sundays. Select bars will feature drink specials as well. Keep an eye on Facebook for updates and weekend details!

Finally, if you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to complete the Euclid Avenue Pool Site Survey on our website. Your feedback is essential as we explore future options for this space. The survey is open until May 12th—thank you for helping shape what’s next. We look forward to seeing you around town this May as we celebrate tradition, community, an
