May 2026

May brings the return of some of our community’s most anticipated traditions, starting with the Willoughby Outdoor Market. Organized by the Heart of Willoughby, this long-standing favorite opens on Saturday, May 2nd, from 8 am – 12 pm in the City Hall parking lot and will continue each Saturday through October. It’s a great way to support local vendors while enjoying a lively downtown atmosphere.

This summer also marks a major milestone for the Willoughby Baseball League as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. For generations, the league has provided young athletes with the opportunity to learn the game, build friendships, and create lasting memories on the field. A special anniversary event will be held on May 9th at Todd Field with a day full of baseball, softball, music, food trucks, kids’ activities, and community as we honor the past and celebrate the future of WBL. We congratulate everyone involved in contributing to its continued success.

Later in the month, downtown Willoughby will once again host the Marous DTW Rib Burn Off on May 16th–17th. This popular event draws visitors from across the region for a weekend of award-winning ribs, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and plenty of great food and refreshments.

As we close out the month, we take time to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day will be observed on May 25, with the annual parade beginning at 9:30 am at Erie Street and Third Street. The parade will conclude with a ceremony at Sharpe Avenue Cemetery, followed by a second ceremony at 11 am at Willoughby Memorial Gardens on Lakeshore Boulevard.

We continue to make strong progress on the renovation of the Willoughby Police Station, with several key elements now taking shape. Interior work is moving forward, including the installation of lockers, filing systems, dispatch stations, and other essential components that will support day-to-day operations for our officers. Construction on the new jail area is also underway after experiencing some weather-related delays over the past few months.

Currently, the project remains on track for a late summer completion. As progress continues, we are planning to host a mid-summer “hard hat” community tour, giving residents an opportunity to see the improvements firsthand and learn more about the investment being made in public safety.

In addition, we are making significant headway on the Osborne Park shoreline project, where revetment work is currently underway. This effort is an important step in protecting the shoreline, enhancing the park, and preserving this valuable community asset for years to come. You can stay up to date on these projects on our website under the Community tab.

We look forward to the months ahead and hope to see you out enjoying all that Willoughby has to offer this season.
