November 2022

Now that it is officially fall, we want to remind our residents that curbside leaf pickup has begun and will continue through the first week in December. Please rake your leaves to the curb, but not into the street, as they could enter our storm sewers and potentially cause flooding. Also, do not dispose of leaves on neighbors’ property, public right of ways, or utility easements. Leaf pickup will be suspended with a snow event as snowplowing becomes a priority. Leaves may also be bagged and placed on the curb for pickup by Republic Services. Republic’s yard waste collection service will continue until December 2nd.

With the end of a successful concert season, we are evaluating your input from our survey to determine next summer’s events and venues. We are also reviewing your thoughts and recommendations for the programs and designs for Todd Field and Osborne Park. The administration has not made any final recommendations to Council about these important projects, and we welcome our residents’ input for each. We intend to host a community meeting to discuss both projects shortly after the new year and will post the date and time of this meeting on our website.

We would also like to remind you that Election Day is Tuesday, November 8th, and we have two important renewal levies for consideration. The first levy is a renewal of our Recreation Levy. This .5-mill, five-year levy was initially passed in 1956 and generates about $82,263 per year, with the funds going to support current recreation expenses programs.

The second levy is a renewal of our General Operating Levy, originally passed in 1956. This 1.5-mill, five-year levy generates about $246,789 per year, with the funds going to support current operating expenses.

Please note these renewals will not result in a tax increase. For specific questions, please reach out to our Finance Director at 440.953.4101, and a link to the sample ballot is on our website.

With the holiday season approaching, our city has many exciting events happening. Our first event is the annual holiday lighting ceremony on Thursday, December 1st, in Downtown Willoughby, followed by the Holiday Stroll and Open House on December 2nd and 3rd hosted by the Downtown Willoughby Merchants. As always, we encourage you to check our website and Facebook page for important news and events.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
