October 2024
We are proud to announce that the Willoughby Police Department has recently been awarded two major honors, recognizing their commitment to excellence, leadership, and community engagement in law enforcement.
The department has received the Agency Trilogy Award from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI LEEDA), acknowledging the department’s exceptional leadership training efforts This award is granted to law enforcement agencies that emphasize leadership development at all levels of their organization. To earn this distinction, members of the department completed the trilogy of FBI LEEDA’s executive-level leadership training courses, focusing on supervisor, command, and executive leadership. This achievement reflects the department’s dedication to fostering a culture of professional growth and development within the force. The Willoughby Police Department has had 16 supervisors complete the trilogy training over the last 5 years. We had the honor to host the Executive Director of the FBI LEEDA, retired Chief of Police Jacques Battiste who presented the honor to Willoughby Police Chief Jim Schultz at our City Council meeting.
Additionally, the Willoughby Police Department has been named Agency of the Month by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation, a prestigious recognition that highlights the department’s outstanding service to the community. This award is a testament to the department’s proactive approach to community policing, public safety initiatives, and efforts to build trust and collaboration with the residents of Willoughby. The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation praised the department for its innovative programs, strong leadership, and commitment to maintaining a safe and secure community.
Willoughby Police Department has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our city. These honors are well deserved, and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated team serving our residents. The Police Department continues to expand community engagement opportunities for our residents. Two programs that have seen increased interest and growth are the Willoughby Police Cadets and the Citizens Police Academy. Additionally, they have been hosting Coffee with Cops events at local businesses, and upcoming events that include the annual Trunk or Treat with area safety forces at the Lake County Captains stadium and Stuff the Cruiser near the holidays. We encourage our residents to attend the WPD’s events and take the opportunity to connect with our dedicated officers.
We are fortunate to have passionate, talented, and dedicated safety forces in our city and we should never underestimate their value as they work tirelessly to protect and serve us.
We mentioned a few of the events planned this season and we welcome you to check our website and Facebook page for a full listing of events and other community information.
