September 2025
As fall approaches, it’s a great time to highlight the services and programs that help keep Willoughby safe, beautiful, and connected.
Animal Trapping Program Returns
Following an increase in calls and emails from residents, the city will be reinstating its animal trapping program. Our Service Department is currently working with potential trappers, with plans to finalize details this month and resume service this fall. The program will provide residents with up to two trappings per calendar year at no cost, and requests can be made through an online form on our website. Willoughby remains the only city in our area offering a service to help residents manage nuisance wildlife.
Curbside Leaf Collection
Fall also means the return of our curbside leaf collection program. Willoughby is one of the few cities to offer this convenient service, which helps residents manage yard clean-up efficiently and keeps our neighborhoods looking their best. Collection is set to begin next month and continue until early December, weather permitting. Specific start and end dates will be posted on our website.
Other City Services
In addition to these seasonal offerings, Willoughby provides a wide range of resident services year-round, including:
- Street maintenance, snow removal, storm and sanitary sewer checks, and property maintenance assistance
- Public safety support from our dedicated police and fire departments, including our citizens academies and community outreach programs
- Recreation programs and community events for all ages
Back-to-School Reminders
With the start of the new school year, I’d like to extend my best wishes to all our students, educators, and school staff for a successful year ahead. Our schools truly are the heartbeat of Willoughby, and I know this year will bring new opportunities for growth, discovery, and accomplishment. Please be extra mindful of speed limits and stay alert to students, families, and school buses, as traffic and pedestrian activity will increase around our school buildings.
Get Involved
Fall is a great time to get involved! Whether it’s volunteering at local events or joining a community program, there are many ways to help our community. We’ve added a Volunteer Page to our website where you can explore upcoming opportunities to share your time and talents to help our city.
Also, serving on one of our appointed boards or commissions is another meaningful way to support Willoughby. These groups provide valuable guidance to me, City Council, and our staff on a variety of issues affecting our community. If you’re interested in lending your voice and expertise, please send your resume to rfiala@willoughbyohio.com.
